Frank Rockett - execdir@volunteerleedsgrenville.com
Executive Director
Volunteer Bureau of Leeds and Grenville

As the Executive Director of the Volunteer Bureau of Leeds and Grenville, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.

I have worked in the non-profit sector for many years, with organizations such as Alzheimer Society and the Canadian Mental Health Association. I am a graduate of Algonquin College in Fundraising Management and I am currently pursuing a degree in Public Service Studies at Carleton University.

I believe in building a strong community through volunteerism. I have sat on the Parent Council of the school my children attend, and coached youth soccer and softball in the community. I have also volunteered for community initiatives such as the Earth Day Waterfront Clean-up, and have assisted The United Way with its annual campaign.

I look forward to working with the community to help promote volunteerism and to providing the various services available through the Volunteer Bureau.

Student Caring Awards, Program Coordinator

I was born in Brockville and continue to call this community my home. I graduated from Brockville Collegiate Institute and pursued my post-secondary education at Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec. I majored in psychology and sociology, minored in criminology, and was awarded a BA with Honours.

I have a strong interest in my community, and am always inspired by the caring of others. I am amazed at how much I have learned in the past few years about this area and the people that inhabit it, even though I have always lived here. The generosity and strong sense of community never ceases to amaze me!

My role at the Volunteer Bureau of Leeds & Grenville is to organize the Caring Awards. These awards are designed to recognize exceptional student volunteers in the area who demonstrate good citizenship and a willingness to better their community by modeling caring, integrity, fairness, respect & empathy. The goals for this year in terms of these awards are to gain financial sponsorship from local companies/agencies, increase the awareness and popularity of the award, and reinforce the award as a reputable honour in the community.

I am looking forward to the challenges I encounter, and hope to positively contribute not only to the Volunteer Bureau, but to the community as a whole.

Learning Through Service, Program Coordinator

I was born in Brockville and currently reside just outside of Brockville in Maynard. I graduated from Brock University in April 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts honours degree, majoring in Drama in Education. I went on to pursue a Teaching Degree at the University of Ottawa. I am very excited and enthusiastic to become part of such a great team at the Volunteer Bureau.

The Learning Through Service program is offered to elementary students as a stepping stone to becoming active participants in their community by combining classroom curriculum with community outreach projects. The goal is to examine the benefits of volunteering and service learning in hopes to raise awareness and willful participation in our diverse and ever-changing society. The program will operate bi-weekly as a volunteer club taking place during second break. The students will develop new skills, build on existing skills, and gain the tools necessary to become stronger more tolerant individuals, while having a lot of fun a long the way!

My role as the Program Coordinator will be to research, develop, and administer service-learning materials. I will be leading and co-teaching service models to faculty, students, and non-profit organizations. I hope to build relationships between schools and organizations while providing new ideas and resources to Volunteer Club educators. I believe the students will thoroughly enjoy the program and it will increase the number of youth volunteers in the Leeds and Grenville area. I am grateful to be part of such a rewarding community program and take on the responsibility wholeheartedly.
